If you merely give a starving man a one time food, the saying goes, you’ll feed him for a day. But teach him to earn, and you’ll feed him for a lifetime.
Unfortunately, the saying has a tragic flaw. When a person is in truly desperate circumstances, that is the worst possible time to teach a new skill. The right course of action is to feed him, nurse him back to health, and then teach him to earn.
This oversight, this lack of empathy — teaching a skill at the wrong time— is why so many people bounce off meditation, mindfulness, stress reduction, and even their fitness goals.
So before helping anybody, analyze their situation and state of mind.
Have a great day!
